Examined the Ruined Tirumala Ghat Roadways TTD Chairman Sri YV Subbareddy
Mr. Subbareddy said devotees who book darshan tickets online and come to Tirumala by vehicles can change the darshan date within six months if they postpone their journey due to heavy rains. He said there was no problem for the devotees going for Tirumala on the walkway.
TTD Chairman Shri YV Subbareddy said that the Up Ghat Road from Tirupati to Tirumala was severely damaged by landslides. Large-scale landslides broke out between 5 and 40 a.m. Wednesday, destroying defensive walls and roads. TTD Chairman Shri YV Subbareddy inspected the areas. Authorities said a major accident had taken place at four places and no one was injured due to the kindness of Sri Venkateswara Swamy. The Chairman then made several instructions to the officers.
Shri YV Subbareddy spoke to the media on the occasion. He said the slopes on the Thirumala Ghat roads were being eroded by the recent heavy rains on a scale never seen in the last 30 years. The RTC bus was on its way to Tirumala between 5 and 45 am when the driver stopped the bus due to heavy noise and smoke, the chairman said. Another five or six cliffs on the Up Ghat Road were in danger of collapsing. The chairman said he had directed the authorities to repair the road and take strict protective measures as soon as possible. A team of experts from Delhi IIT will arrive in Tirupati on Wednesday evening.
TTD along with engineering and vigilance officers will inspect the ghat roads. He explained that they would conduct a full study on the precautions to be taken to prevent the cliffs from collapsing and submit a report in two to three days. He said steps would be taken to prevent similar incidents in the future as well. He said vehicular traffic would be allowed on Down Ghat Road till the repairs on Ghat Road are completed.
